Skin Tightening FAQs
What does “Skin Tightening” do?
Skin Tightening is a non-ablative procedure that reduces visible
lines and wrinkles by deeply stimulating your own skin to produce
collagen and elastin by strongly warming the upper dermis. The
result is the more youthful looking and vibrant appearance of
your skin.
When will I see results?
You will be able to see subtle, yet consistent results after
each treatment, without unwanted side effects such as bruising
or excessive skin irritation. Your treatment can be performed
in a relaxed, comfortable manner with the use of a topical anesthesia.
We have available an over-the-counter 5% topical lidocaine cream.
Why do I need an anesthetic?
This procedure imparts a great deal of energy into your skin
at the junction of the dermis and epidermis to vigorously stimulate
the tissue to produce collagen and elastin. The energy levels
would be uncomfortable without the use of an anesthetic. You
may use an over-the-counter preparation available from your
local pharmacist called LMX, or we will supply you with an over-the-counter
5% topical lidocaine cream that takes about 20 minuets to take
affect, so you’ll want to plan accordingly.
Is the treatment painful?
No. Skin Tightening is minimal discomfort when performed using
the topical anesthetic. Skin Tightening is a non-ablative, non-invasive
treatment. Unlike other laser treatments, it does not wound
the skin's surface, thus virtually eliminating the need for
complicated post treatment care. Patients can return to normal
activities almost immediately. Typically patients describe the
treatment as a hot sensation on the surface of the skin if they
feel much of anything.
What areas can be treated?
Unlike many other procedures available today, with Skin Tightening
therapy, we can safely treat all areas. The most common are
the face, neck, and chest areas.
What can I expect before the treatment?
There are no complicated pretreatment rituals with this procedure.
Prior to the actual Skin Tightening treatment, you will be asked
to remove your make-up or moisturizers. Men may be asked to
shave the area to be treated so as not to interfere with the
laser treatment. A numbing cream is used in this procedure.
We use a 5% topical lidocaine cream that is applied in the office.
You will need to allow sufficient time for the anesthetic to
take affect—approximately 30 minutes. Your laser technician
will assist with all pretreatment requirements. You do have
the option of using an anesthetic preparation of your own, but
it must be applied on premises.
How many treatments do I need?
We deeply and very vigorously stimulate your skin in this procedure.
The treatment results are definite, but can be subtle. On average,
you will require 4 to 6 treatments in order to achieve the results
you are looking for. Every patient's conditions and needs vary.
Some conditions may require more treatments. It is important
for you to discuss your expectations with the clinical staff
and have a clear understanding of the likely and realistic results
of this type of procedure. For more information, please give
us a call.
